   About Gunn and Moore

The world-famous Gunn & Moore brand was founded in 1885 and has over 140 years of experience as a specialist cricket equipment manufacturer. Today we’re home to the most technologically advanced factory in the world, with every Gunn & Moore cricket bat made right in the heart of England in the humble surroundings of Nottinghamshire.

Trusted by the world’s best throughout the years, history is made with a GM in hand. From Ben Stokes to Georgia Wareham through to Jacob Bethell, Dani Gibson and countless cricketers in parks across the globe, we serve players from grassroots cricket all the way through to the professional game.

History of Gunn & Moore

On the sixth day of April 1985, renowned local businessman Thomas J Moore and legendary Nottinghamshire cricketer William Gunn officially joined forces, forming a brand that still stands strong in the present day. Alongside master craftsman William Sherwin, maker of the first Production Bat, GMs forefathers forged a path which is still clear to this day.

Generations of craftsmen and women have harnessed the artisan skill of batmaking, shaping pieces of the finest English willow into bats trusted and endorsed by some of the best cricketers to ever play the game. Sourcing our own willow for generations, the Salix Coerula is the only English variant able to produce the lightweight straight grain that is suitable for making all of our bats.

Innovation in Cricket Bat Manufacturing

Staying at the forefront of technological advancements, our world-leading DXM process came in 2007, improving the manufacturing process which remains a cornerstone of our existence through to the present day.

All GM English willow bats receive factory-fitted protection through the GM NOW! service, meaning they are ready to use as soon as they’re received. This includes in-house knocking-in by our bat makers, raw linseed oil application to help maintain moisture levels in the blade and reduce cracking and splitting, and a clear anti-scuff cover applied to the face and edges to improve blade durability.

ToeTek DriGuard is also applied to the toe of the bat, using a specifically shaped resilient shield to help resist damp and minimise toe swelling. This added protection helps reduce toe damage and feathering that can often be caused by tapping at the crease.

The bat that ends up in the hands of Aiden Markram or Amy Jones goes through the exact same processes as a junior cricketer taking their first steps into the game with a Gunn & Moore in their hand.

Whether it’s a top of the range cricket bat, an innovative cricket glove, a top of the range cricket helmet or a cricket bag to fit all the above, we’ve got you covered.
